BCCSS Recipient of 2017 BC Health Care Award

June 26, 2017

Congratulations to BCCSS employees for their recognition at the 11th annual BC Health Care Awards held on June 26, 2017.

Award of Merit (Top Innovation): Test Review Committee (TRC)

Established in December 2015, the TRC is the first initiative undertaken by BC’s Agency for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, a clinical division of BCCSS. The TRC reviews, evaluates and makes evidence-based recommendations regarding the introduction, amendments and/or elimination of publicly-funded clinical laboratory tests (including inpatient, outpatient and out-of-province tests).

This approach is a first of its kind not only for BC but for Canada. The test review process makes the inclusion (or elimination) of clinical laboratory tests on BC's publicly funded clinical laboratory test menu more efficient and transparent and is based on the best medical and scientific evidence. The use of a committee structure allows innovation and best practices to be applied to the administration and provision of insured laboratory benefits across the province. In a rapidly changing technologically advanced field, new tests are being developed constantly.

Nomination (Top Innovation): Value Analysis Team (VAT)

The Value Analysis Team (VAT) is a partnership between BCCSS Support Services Division, Supply Chain and the Health Authorities (HAs). The VAT is a forum to discuss provincial standardization opportunities that optimize safety and quality of care, reduce costs and improve patient outcomes. BCCSS is responsible for developing this stakeholder engagement model in BC.

BCCSS is very proud of this work and recognizes that our organization’s ability to innovate and provide service excellence is due to the strength, imagination and dedication of our employees.
